The challenge of knowledge management

Knowledge management at in-person events has always represented a significant challenge for global organizations. The MCI Institute, the learning and development center of excellence of the MCI Group, serves a workforce of 1,700 employees distributed across 31 countries, offering a wide range of educational resources. However, the organization identified a gap in leveraging the content generated during its live educational events. The need was clear: to find a scalable way to capture this valuable knowledge and transform it into post-event resources and courses.

Implementation of a pilot project

To address this challenge, the global Learning and Development (L&D) team implemented a pilot project during the MCI Institute Business Academy, an event that brought together 300 global leaders. The adopted solution involved using a learning management system (LMS) powered by the latest Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) technologies.

Real-time synthesis with AI

During the event, artificial intelligence was employed to synthesize, in real time, the content presented and the discussions held. Simultaneously, this wealth of information was channeled directly into the company's LMS. This innovative approach allowed crucial insights, which might otherwise be lost after the event ended, to be preserved and made available for continuous access.

A paradigm shift in learning

The initiative represents a paradigm shift in how the organization handles learning in in-person environments. Instead of relying solely on participants' memories or fragmented notes, technology enabled the creation of a durable and searchable knowledge base. Moments that were once ephemeral were converted into solid and actionable content, providing a robust foundation for the continuous development of the company's talent across all its global branches.

Key points

What remains.

  • The MCI Institute offers educational resources to 1,700 employees in 31 countries.
  • There was a challenge in capturing and repurposing the knowledge shared at in-person events.
  • The global L&D team launched a pilot at the MCI Institute Business Academy with 300 leaders.
  • Artificial intelligence was used to synthesize live content and discussions.
  • The information was integrated into the company's learning management system (LMS).
  • The goal is to transform ephemeral moments into a solid and lasting knowledge base.

Why it belongs in KNOW

The case speaks directly to the Malha continuity thesis: knowledge generated in in-person moments can be organized, preserved, and connected to new learning cycles.
